And Then, Best Wishes….

Once again I make no excuses for posting this yet again.  I think they are really nice words.  Nice words on their own are just like random sparks trying to start an engine, but when those nice words are put in a nice order after flowing from a writers heart, through his pen onto paper, like a golden, gurgling brook, winding through the countryside at sunset, then you get a sweet running engine.

As you meander through your daily toils and suddenly the road ahead looks decidedly rocky and you feel you may end up just another squashed hedgehog on life's busy highway, take a moment to read it.  I can promise you all your troubles will still be there but maybe, just maybe, they'll look a little less daunting.  One thing's for sure; read it then go outside on a dark, clear night, look up and wonder at the futility of worry.

Read it, enjoy it, get the young to read it, read it to the old, if you know an MP, secure it to his chest, preferably with a wooden stake.

Down below is a slightly corny clip which may make your toes curl.  Or not.  I'd like, in good faith, to dedicate it primarily to all who do business on the sea but also to all who won't be where they'd like to be for Christmas.  Get home safe, okay?

And, of course, a very happy Christmas, and thank you very big, to all who occasionally pass through The Foggy Mirror.

DESIDERATA
Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant, for they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.  If you compare yourself with others you may become vain and bitter for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.  Keep interested in your own career, for however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs for the world is full of trickery.  But let this not blind you to what virtue there is.  Many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full of heroism.  Be yourself.  Especially, do not feign affection.  Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.  But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.  You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here.  And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.  Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you  conceive  Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul.  With all it's sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be careful.
Strive to be happy.
Max Ehrmann (1872–1945)
