And Then It All Just Seems The Same….

The conferences are over and the talking heads have all gone home then.  Probably just me, but everything seems much as it was before, although I have to admit I wasn’t following any of them with rapt attention.

I did pick up on one line of that nice Mr Cameron’s speech though and, again, it may only be me but it just didn’t seem right.  It was a line relating to the freezing of council tax.  Has it been frozen for one or two years?  Never mind; we’re getting another year of it.  But if Dave writes his own material I feel he needs to get it proof read by a grown-up, or if he has a speech writer, he needs a new one.

The line in question relating to the freeze?  “We’re freezing it all over again next year.”
Just doesn’t ring right.  Is running the country like directing a movie or something?  “Cut!! Cut!! Hay, did anyone notice that freezy thingy we did last year?  No?  Right, we’re going to do it all over again then.  With feeling this time!  Lights. Camera. Freeze!!”

Guess it’s just me being picky then.

While we’re on the subject of phraseology, how about dictionology?

 

There’s an advert on TV for eye drops.  If you’re not paying 100% attention at advert time, with the ladies slightly smoothed out diction, you could well be fooled into rushing to the bathroom and attempting to squirt the wrong stuff in your eyes.  Beware!!  In the interest of hygiene, may I humbly suggest a tad more emphasis on the ‘M’?

Along similar lines, an old item of news popped into my mainly dormant head while typing this.  This relates to a fine upstanding pillar of the community who decided to have a rebellious tattoo on his forehead.  

This tattoo was to include, as the last of three words, the colloquial term for the police – fuzz – to be proceeded by the word ‘the’ and firstly a word you can probably figure out for yourselves.  The little scamp, eh?

Our hero decided to do this tattoo work himself with needles and ink.  Sadly, he did it looking in the mirror………

Regardless, it’s all over and, outside that bubble belonging to the boys and girls, I’m pretty sure it’s all going to be pretty much the same as it ever was.
