I see yet another spell of bag weather is forecast. This time it’s got a name I can relate to; Storm Karen. Say wot now? Oh, sorry, it’s Storm Ciarán.
Never mind, the forecast charts are yet again covered in really dark, scary colours.
A K Haart has a cunning idea regards the scary use of figures and how they need to be big to instil the maximum fear factor into fragile folk.
Along those lines, I remember,
not long ago when the forecasters, when reporting a sunny day, would mumble barely audibly a temperature of 32C. That would be followed by the high volume, slowly pronounced figure of 89.6F with the F suitably mumbled. For
reasons not fully understood, that little trick seems to have been dropped.
