Well, so, the news now is predominately those pesky Russians with the mandatory sprinkling of pandemidodad. With sorrow in their hearts they report the news that, in the Russia report, there was no smoking gun – whatever that means – but are still wringing it for all they’re worth.
The bit I caught that beat me round the head was the news of an imminent announcement from the government that, in view of this report, they’re considering passing into law the requirement that all foreign agents will need to register. Hello? Just who the hell, on, I’m sure, a super-duper salary, comes up with these ideas? Was there some sort of exam with question six along the lines of: Explain why you consider yourself of above average intelligence. Write you’re answer in the box provided. Then those that handed in their papers with the comment, “Sorry, I couldn’t answer number six as I wasn’t given a box.” are marked for fast-tracking through the ranks? Peek clown-world has got to be close now.
I believe the below, attributed to Hemmingway, should be prominently displayed in every office of government. And a lot of other places...
Quote; John le Carré.
“A spy, like a writer, lives outside the mainstream population. He steals his experience through bribes and reconstructs it.”
