Well, so, I spotted on the news, eventually, that there was a spot o’ bother down the smoke last night.
You and I know exactly how this news was ‘greeted’ at various news outlets early this AM at the Morning staff briefings, right? ‘Okay folk, listen-up, we’ve been relentlessly screeching for two weeks plus affirming the importance of and our support for the BLM movement so this incident is, like, a tad inconvenient. So, we need to ignore it for as long as possible while we dig and dig and better dig to find a connection, however tenuous, to football so we can run on a loop for a month minimum with the headline we so desperately need. And that headline would be? ‘Twenty-two police officers injured, some seriously, and emergency vehicles trashed after a peaceful street party, held in celebration of the BLM movement, was infiltrated by a number of extreme far right football hooligans and thugs intent on fomenting violence.’’ Okay people, go dig deep.”
Sadly, it seems they couldn’t find a link – or invent a credible one – and the incident was reluctantly - and in a low key sort of way – reported from, wot I could see, about mid morning. However, up to time of typing, the news of twenty-two police injuries, damage to emergency vehicles and four arrests hasn’t made it to the TV news coveted number one spot and, it seems, never got higher than the poor morning entry point of the number three slot. Will it be gone with the going down of the sun? News is nothing no more.
A K Haart spot on as ever.
Quote; Thomas Sowell.
“If people in the media cannot decide whether they are in the business of reporting news or manufacturing propaganda, it is all the more important that the public understand that difference, and choose their news sources accordingly.”
