Remember when I was on the brink of buying a new printer but a little patience and button clicking cured the ‘fault’? No? And why should you.
Anyhoo, a couple of days ago a screen flashed-up announcing the printer/scanner wanted to install updates. Go ahead said I but nothing happened so I clicked OK. That worked. Then yesterday, I had a document I needed to scan before posting the original. Guess wot?
Between the tap-top and the printer/scanner, connected via WoFo, nothing but the message Twain device not found.
Wot to do? Turn off stuff, reboot stuff, delete software and re-install, all to no avail.
I use IrfanView for photo stuff an’ such. It’s small, fast and does all I ever need to do with images. Damn good little program for free. So, with nothing working I went into IrfanView settings to check the selected Twain device. Sure enough, two choices with the top one being the printer wot I have and the second choice just being a random selection of letters and numbers meaning nothing to me.
Repeated attempts to get it to work with my listed printer failed so as a last resort I selected the random selection of letters and numbers as the Twain device. Guess wot – it worked seamlessly. Why? You’re seriously asking me? Ideas have I none and all I can say is, once again, I left the easy option to try ‘till last. Story of my life.
On the plus side, my tap-top recently informed me it ain’t compatible with Billy 11 so I’ll be spared endless time on downloading it to be informed, during installation, Billy 11 failed to install so please reboot and the entire download/installation process will start again. All for ‘features’ I’ve never wanted or needed and never will.
