Well, here we all are again. So, may I, like, wish all who pay me the honour of peering into the Foggy Mirror occasionally all the very best seasonal wishes. To quote yet again, “Thanks for taking time to listen to an old man; your time is a valuable thing.”
As is my wont, this season wouldn’t be complete without my Desiderata reminder for you would it?
DESIDERATA Max Ehrmann (1927)
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it’s still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.
On a personal level, I could say so much more but I’ve said it all before so just stay well and, against all the odds, enjoy yourselves. Please see the legal small print below wot I remembered from a little bit after a while ago and which is becoming ever more pertinent as time tears by.
I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends and colleagues, but it's difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on advice I wish to say the following;
Please accept, with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2018, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that England is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms;
This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for him/her or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.
And to all those who do business on the sea, get home safe, ya hear? This song’s for you. Sorry if it chokes you up...
Finally, here’s my card to y’all. Merry Mind-That-Fan.
Quote; John Leo.
“The principal advantage of the non-parental lifestyle is that on Christmas Eve you need not be struck dumb by the three most terrifying words that the government allows to be printed on any product: ‘Some assembly required.’”

Merry Christmas Mac. Keep the inimitable humour coming.
A K Haart,
Thank you and right back at you and yours.
I'll keep it coming for as long as I can; longer if I can find a way...
Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year to you and all your readers.
Ripper,
And the same to you on behalf of myself, colander collectors and all our invisible friends...
Thank you, Mac! And all the very best to you and yours.
Found this festive little number and sent it to all the younger members of the scattered Caratacus family, encouraging them to eat up all their sprouts because it is their Christian duty to fill the air with ... festive cheer. Says so in Scriptures ;-)

Caratacus,
Appreciate that - thanks.
As for sprouts, I actually enjoy a bowl of sprouts - just sprouts - served drowned in thick, rich beef gravy and a very generous sprinkling of ground pepper. Simple to prepare even without any previous culinary training. But please be aware that when heat is applied to stuff, any stuff, then that stuff will become hot to the touch... Enjoy.
