And Then A Festilude....

The mirror of foggyness may be off the grid for the next couple or three days while I sit rivetted to the plethora of top quality entertainment that’s going to be available on TV over the festive{?} period. That’s called wishful thinking by the way. Guns Of Navarone on again? And again, and again...

Anyhoo, as is my wont, with absolutely no apologies, below is my annual offering to you all for the season and the year to come.

                   DESIDERATA  {Max Ehrmann (1927)}

   Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
   Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
   Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
   Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
   Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
   Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it’s still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Onwards to yet another repeat; Seasick Steve, who’s most memorable line is probably, “I started out with nothing and I’ve still got most of it left.” A number wots words the older of you will understand and the younger should ponder. Treat it as a small gift from old me to young you and whatever you do, “Don’t give up on your dreams or they’ll give up on you...”     Trust me, let the words drift in.

And lastly, a festive{?} sing-along; Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake. Yup, it’s a repeat. Is that a pun?

And so, to all of you who pay me the great honour of passing through the Foggy Mirror, to quote the above song, “Thanks for taking time to listen to an old man; your time is a valuable thing”, also to all the Blog authors of the sites listed on the left, and so many others, who work tirelessly to give so much enjoyment, insight, information and brain food, stay well good people and, against all the odds, enjoy your days. My sincere best wishes to you, one and all.

Quote;  Dame Edna Everage.

“My mother used to say that there are no strangers, only friends you haven't met yet. She's now in a maximum security twilight home in Australia.”

             Bart Simpson.

“Aren’t we forgetting the true meaning of this day; the birth of Santa?”
