Please don’t ask why or how this yarn found its way back to me but I awoke with the incident playing in my head. Why? No idea, but it was a wondrously simple moment of happiness so here it be.
Many long years ago, offshore Vietnam, I went to work with a new CD – remember them? The computer in the Jack Shack had a CD drive as did all computers back then as it was the technology to end all technology. Oh how things change eh?
Anyhoo, the CD was a lucky find of a not readily available back then genre, Cajun, and it was playing when the French Night Pusher popped in. Man! All those years ago and I can’t remember his name but vividly remember his face lighting-up and his unbridled joy at hearing the tracks.
A day before he was due to crew change I burned the CD to the hard drive and when he looked in to bid farewell just before chopper time, I presented him with the Cajun CD. He was speechless and close to tears of happiness as he put it in his bag and vigorously shook my hand in joyous thanks and farewell.
In memory of that happy incident so long ago, here’s a fine Cajun track from a pretty good far back film. Y’all remember Southern Comfort?
And from the same movie, here’s some melancholy guitar work to play in the background as you wonder aimlessly round the Wibbly Wobbly Web this evening;
Southern Comfort.
Quote; Tom Waits.
“A gentleman is someone who can play the accordion, but doesn't.”

Back in the day (1978 - 1982) I used to listen to the Alexis Korner blues and soul show on Radio One on Sunday night (8 o'clock I think).But it was so much more than blues and soul. Alexis must have turned me on to dozens of genres of music. Somewhere I still have a few tapes of his programs.
Anyway Alexis played this - the first Cajun song I ever heard. Still play it regularly.

Rick,
Don't remember that program and even though in the 70's I was on mans boat and often round New Orleans and up the river, I never heard Cajon. In fact I'm sure it was the movie Southern Comfort that was my first taste. Timeless sounds...
