And Then, Another Day...

I awoke this morning, always pause for rejoicing, to yet another typical November grey, overcast, drizzly cold day. Shame it’s a day away from July. Well done to Greta Thumbelina I say. Looks like she’s cracked that global warming thingy. At least where wot I be living.
On the other hand, if this weather is a hint of that solar minimum slowly kicking in then, Greta? We have a problem.
Yet to come; no gas heating, all huddled round the heat pump* with intermittent electrickery to run it. If indeed, there is a solar minimum, it all points to times of abject misery just down the line but I’m sure those that would rule over us are paying careful attention to all the science and not just that which fits their ‘agendas’, right? Oh.
Finally, back to wot’s sadly become familiar territory, another scarily interesting video for you to watch, chew over carefully and then come to your own conclusions.

* I admit to absolutely no idea wot these heat pump thingies are all about. Just anecdotal bits wot suggest that for the cost, the output in the form of warmth seems to leave a lot to be desired. I have no idea.

Heat pump. It is a fridge. But instead of taking heat out of the box and distributing it in the air of your kitchen, it takes heat out of the air or sub-soil, or your pond and distributes it inside your house.
This is fine if the sub-soil, air or the water in your pond is warm. Not so good if it at zero C. Sucking heat out will induce hard frost. No heat will flow to your house. Good if worm casts, moles or other sub surface pests are bothering you. Doubly not good if all your neighbours are sucking heat out of the same thing. Maybe good for lawyers. My neighbour is stealing my heat, yer honour.

Doonhammer,
Thanks for that. Sounds like I really, really neeeeeed one of those. Or ten...
I'm assuming they be a tad noisey as well. Next, when they all fire-up come winter, noise pollution problems? Heat pumps to the left of me; heat pumps to the right and I'm stuck in the middle with mine.

Probably best just to ignore all this imposition on us.

Mr Higham,
It seems to be getting to the point where there aren't enough hours in the day to fit in all the ignoring required. I will continue giving it my best shot though.
