If a shop I use wants me to wear a mask, then I am happy to oblige, as long as they supply the mask. Same with the government – if they want me to wear one, they can issue me with it...
...Turns out that the HSE don’t have any rules on this, instead they direct you to the gov.uk site, and this is an extract of what I found on there:
6.1 Face coverings
“Wearing a face covering is required by law when traveling as a passenger on public transport in England. some people don’t have to wear a face covering including for health, age or equality reasons. Elsewhere in England it is OPTIONAL and is not required by law, INCLUDING IN THE WORKPLACE. If you CHOOSE to wear one, it is important to use face coverings properly and wash your hands before putting them on and before and after taking them off.
Employers should support their workers in using face coverings safely IF THEY CHOOSE to wear one”
Seems putting one on and taking one off isn’t quite the simple task you may have imagined. Also, you see that bit about those who don’t have to wear one? Health or age. Okay equality as well, whatever that means, but just consider the first two. Now, correct me if I’m being dumber ‘un a rock, but from pandemonium day one, haven’t we had it drilled into our thick swedes that the ill and/or aged are the most vulnerable? So wot they’re saying now is a mask will keep you and others safe, but you old and/or sick folk? Wot the hay, bu-by.
With the ‘requirements’ changing by the second, it seems we need to be as nimble of mind and body as these folk to keep up with wot’s cool and wot’s naughty;

I guess half of this mess is down to people's tendency to jump to conclusions. As some people have argued with me about the virus - "just because you can't see it, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist". Well, that phrase cuts both ways. Always question why, and do your research, unlike that lady with the kids in the clip.
