And Then, A Good Mix...

When we leave the place wot we live and either head north to the nearest market towns or onwards to the coast, we very quickly come to a roundabout on the dual carriage way. Straight on is the way we go – with slight bends so as to go round the roundabout of course.
Take a right and you end up in a medium sized business park. However, the first premises just off the roundabout is a very large gym. This, we know, is the real deal, with gyms, pools and all you could think of fitness related.
From the main road, through the trees, you get a good view of the huge carpark and it always seems well filled. Not long ago we noted building work was going on in the carpark so it would seem the gym or landowners, I no not which, have sold{?} a lump of the land.
Anyhoo, for the first time in a while, wot with house arrests an’ all, we passed said gym along the dual carriage way and could see the building work was complete and the new premises were open right next to the gym so we just had to take a detour to check it out
All I can say is that this is marketing genius on some ones part. And why would that be? That would be because the new build is a Burger King joint.... Gym carpark full; queue at the Burger King drive through and as best I could see, most tables taken.
To add to the beauty of this fast food and exercise pairing, continuing along the main dual carriage way without turning off and after no more that a hundred yards after the gym and fast food roundabout, you hit another roundabout. Hang a right here and right off the roundabout is wot then? Why a hospital; the one wot I was in back 2019 at ticker-a-tack time.
So there you go, over eat junk food or over exercise or a combination of both and you're only a sedate crawl to the hospital. This has to take marketing genius to a whole new level.

And Then, Peddle Up...

I’m sure I’ve got this wrong but this was my take of the initial inane announcement regarding fat folk getting on a bicycle.

It sounded like doctors would be instructed to give bicycles to fat folk through the prescription system. So you roll-up, complain about your weight and beg for a bike?

Now an item requested via a prescription costs just short of ten quid per item – unless you’re of an age, as indeed am I, then it’s all ‘free’. So, play your cards right and there’s a chance of getting a bike for a tenner? Even ‘free’? Two things if wot I heard was right, I’m sure pharmacies will be delighted at the prospect of having to find room in their shops for a selection of bikes on top of all the meds and drugs they need to stock.

Secondly, later amended, was the thought of getting your bike, getting it home and straight away, sticking it up for sale on the Inter-Web. Naughty fat folk would then repeat the above, requesting a repeat prescription owing to ‘theft’ of first and subsequent bikes.

Then it dawned on me that the Inter-Web market for bicycles would’ve dried-up owing to the legitimate availability of ten quid bikes via a GP.

And I would do wot then? Give ‘em a hula-hoop.

Anyhoo, on my next visit to my GP I’ll explore the chances of getting an electric bike owing to increasing weight and age...

And Then Jog On...

I’m positive you’re not in the slightest bit interested as to why I haven’t popped in here for the last few days and I’m not about to bore you with the reasons. I will, however, make mention of one of the reasons.

My little nest of vipers has been suspiciously subdued recently and I put this down to the fact finally sinking in that the sixty year milestone had been reached. How right I was as she announced she was going to start a fitness and weight control exercise regime.  Have at it said I, sensing there was more to this than press-ups.
”I want to do that running that I see many people doing.” Have at it said I, sensing there was more to this than jogging.
”But I don’t want to run round road. Can I have machine?”

After a little research, it seems – should I wish to join in at some time at my age – that a tread mill was the way to go.  Thus it was that a big truck rolled-up and two stout fellows unloaded a box of dimensions only a tad less than those of the big truck.

I got it set up in the dining room after rearranging the furniture somewhat. No big deal as the dining area hasn’t been used since the invention of the tray and the realisation that trays rested on knees in front of TVs. Thing was the spooky screwing together similarity with Ikea kit. All finished and unlike Ikea, with one screw short, I had two bolts, three nuts and two washers left looking at me. Sounds cool but is as equally annoying as this is motorised, heavy kit and although I’d followed the distructions to the letter, I had to go through the whole procedure again. Health and safety don’t ya know.  And? All was cool and I do indeed have spare kit that’ll sit in a draw, just in case, for ever.

I fired the beast up and gave it a test and let me tell ya it ‘reaches’ places I didn’t know I had places. At her chosen time, off she went and I withdrew to the sitting room sofa to continue my breathing in and out routine. I was expecting her back, breathless, in moments but she hit it for the full thirty minutes as recommended. I’m surprised and impressed.

Yes, I’ll join in but I plan to work into it gradually over a period of five to six months until I’m doing a full five minutes a day...

And Then One From Before….

With the recent talk of fatty food and strenuous exercise routines, I was reminded of a post I'd posted a long time ago.

At that time I posted an item I found  archived from even a longer time before the time I originally posted the post. Which leads to the deeper question, a question I may come back to once I'm sure this post is saved, of why we save stuff.

It's saved. So, is all that carefully saved stuff going with us or wot? Or are we saving stuff just to inconvenience someone else who has to spend time sorting through it all and then dumping it when we're gone?

Anyhoo, it was a post – getting sick of the 'post' word yet? – regarding exercise so I thought I'd re-post the old post again. This is also an indication that, right now, I have nothing else to post about tonight. However, the video, linked at the bottom, is really cleaver. Enjoy.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface where you have plenty of room at each side.
With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there for as long as you can.
Do your best to hold for a full minute, and then relax.
Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a little longer.
After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.
Then try 50-lb potato bags and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight out for more than a full minute.
{I’m at this level now.}
Once you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

You should always relax after taking strenuous exercise  so get ready and go out and treat yourself to a nice dinner. Try not to make a dogs dinner of it though.

And Then Sheep Did Come….

This link was left in the comments and I highly recommend a click even if you only have a passing interest in sheep.

Anonymous, knowing how busy you are commenting on all the sites and Blogs out there, sometimes several times on one topic, may I thank you for taking the time to pass that on.

As that link kept me awake replaying, I thought about exercise as a way to encourage sleep to come see me.  The key words there are, 'Thought about'.  What seems to be working best at the moment is the gentle sound of falling flooding and below is a nice clip that kind o' sums up my feeling on exercise.  I like this guy; he seems to be on my wave length. Or viccy verky.
Stay tuned and, later in the week, I'll glue a nice little Christmas toon on here.  Why not?  It's way after August, right?

And Then It Was Yet Another Chilly One….

Another couple of days of really severe gullible warming and is it not fascinating to learn, from the experts, how this actually works? It’s so cold because it's getting so warm. You know what? I’m not too sure I can relate to that. But that’s just me.

While feeding the birds I exchanged cheery seasonal greetings with my neighbour. Although this isn't too important, that’s the neighbour on the left. If I’m outside looking at the house. From the front. He’s on the right if I’m inside looking out my window. The front window. He's not the gutter falling down neighbour.

He enquired if we were heading off anywhere on this cold, cold day. My reply was a fervent no, and furthermore, said I, freezing firmament as it was, I wasn't figuring on sallying further forth or farther afield than five feet from the front of the festive fire, other than for the frequent fetching of food.

Having used up all the appropriate 'F' words that fit, it being too freezing to engage in fatuous, frivolous frivolity, I bade him a fond and friendly farewell and, went away....

Back over the icy, wickedly slippery ground I warily wondered, wearily wending my wintery way towards the welcoming warmth. The food fetched for me, by a curious coincidence, was duck.

And Then There Was Physical Exercise….

Depending on how the next couple of days go, some of you will be happy, some sad, some tempted to rub broken glass in their face and chew their knees and some checking on new destinations.

As it all unfolds, rather than constantly flicking through the TV and radio channels in the hope of finding better - worse news, depending on the news you want, why not just switch everything off and work it all out of your system with some good old physical exercise?

The suggestion here is more a long term proposition, but, nevertheless, is a good starting point and this is a good time to start. After only a couple of days you will be more physically and mentally able to deal with whatever the result may be.

You don’t need any specialist equipment or fancy kit. And who knows? You may get to enjoy it. Let’s be getting started with it.

{I’m at this level now.}

Once you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.
