And Then, I Get A Surprise...

Okay, not exactly a surprise, more a wha? moment and it went something like this.

We were out doing a bit of that essential shopping which, it seems, is still allowed. You know the sort of stuff; food for me and a colander selection and lottery ticket for her; as stated, essentials. Anyhoo, in the queue at the checkout and I don’t ever give it no never mind anymore to watch just about everyone in front of me pay with plastic – either slotted into the card reader or the super modern, totally secure method of just waving their card in the air.

However, wot I saw this morning was yet another new to me. The young lady in front of us finished loading her shopping bags, looked at the till and pulled her phone out. Thought I to me, ah ha! Forgot her card so she’s going to hastily hail her husband who’s probably hiding, sans mask, in the car park. Oh, sorry, there I go assuming again. Drop ‘husband’ and insert partner of undefined gender or species, okay?

Anyhoo, imagine my stifled surprise when she didn’t make a call but just waived her phone in the general direction of the card reader and the cashier smiled, handed over the receipt and she toddled off.

Man, that’s got to be a super secure app thingy to have on your phone to pay for stuff, right?  Maybe it’s just an age thing that makes me wonder where it’ll all end. It won’t end of course, as the next control item – disguised as a must have app – is just a heartbeat down the super connected highway.

Whenever I think about any current issue, no matter what the subject - taxes, covid regulations, you name it - I keep coming back to this..

I hear the cowards that be are debating cancelling Christmas. Mrs. Murky in Germany has already done so, and blamed the decision on Christmas shoppers to boot. How much longer do you think the throng will put up with the tiny dot's nonsense?

Ripper,
I believe you've pointed me at the dot before - like it.
Christmas? How very dare anyone try to enjoy themselves eh? And you just know the 'reported' deaths and positive test are going to rocket in the new year and will be broadcast on the minute every minute for weeks with the comment, "The people were warned but ignored all the advice." Let's just shut the country.
