And Then, No Money...

Just a quick one on my reflections on what a weird country we’re living in owing to the news that some{?} police forces have stated that, owing to budget cuts and shortages of personnel, some{?} remembrance day gatherings will be cancelled as they won’t be able to ‘supervise’ them.

To put this in perspective, funds and folk are available to take part in various police ‘events’ such as those shown below;

                 Bears Finger

               PandaHigh

But not available for remembrance day gatherings. The things you need to dwell on are twofold. It seems that in these modern days, people gathering to silently honour and pay their respects to those that gave their lives to protect this country throughout time, now need a police security presence. Think about that.

Okay, forget the security aspect and just use their word – supervision -  these fellows below need police supervision? Really?

                 Remember

Quote;  Terry Pratchett.

“I get it,' said the prisoner. 'Good Cop, Bad Cop, eh?'
If you like.' said Vimes. 'But we're a bit short staffed here, so if I give you a cigarette would you mind kicking yourself in the teeth?”

Not fit for purpose.

Timbotoo,
Simply put and so true and one has to wonder how/why we allowed things to unravel so far so quickly. There may well be scary times ahead.

I really miss my old oppo, a retired 30-year copper who never made it further than a grizzled and flinty sergeant in Surrey constabulary, and one of the finest, most honest men I ever knew. He would look at the newbies coming in and shake his head sadly, observing that the Nine Peeelian Principles of Policing seemed to be all but invisible in the modern Pleece Service ("it's a force, not a by-our-lady service"). Quite what he would have made of the painted nails and high heels I hesitate to say, but I'm pretty sure that there would be at least four Fs, a fair sprinkling of Bs, one or two Ws (when referring to Chief Constables past) and at least one or two Ps. He is sadly missed.

Caratacus,
He’ll be spinning in his grave I’m sure.
I’m old enough to remember when most neighbourhoods had their dedicated patrolling bobbies.
Remember that? They knew almost everyone on their beat and almost everyone knew them. Old Mrs Smith hadn’t taken her milk in for a couple of days? Bang on the door and check her out. Going on holiday? Pop out and let them know and they’d keep an extra eye out and check round the back a couple of times. Kids kicking a ball round the street? They’d join in for a while. Where they having fun? No, they were getting a feeling for which of us kids may grow up to be bad boys and needed to be kept an eye on.
As stated over at Ambush Predator - http://thylacosmilus.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/oh-is-it-that-time-of-year-again.html - there were no money or manpower problems for that Notting Hill multi-culty QUERTYKEYBOARD circus. Says it all really.
