Seems something called Brexit is in the headlines again today. Oh, wait a minute, it’s been up there for a goodly while now, right? Wot I keep hearing from various business running type folk the media wheel out is how ‘crashing out’ without a deal{?} will be disastrous for their businesses. These fellows are never pressed regarding in wot way it’ll be disastrous for their business.
Anyhoo, let’s assume these folk are quite bright to have got where they are and exhibit quite a bit ruthlessness in their daily dealings. In the beginning? At some point I guess they had an idea. They pursued that idea, drew-up pro and con columns and if the pro column beat the con column they continued, obtained seed finance and kicked off after sourcing local markets.
Time passes and the company expands and thus finds customers in other countries and all is going swimmingly until boy Cummerbund offers an EU In/Out vote stating quite clearly that, in the very unlikely event of OUT winning, out would most definitely mean out. OUT.
Whoa!! Right out of left field, seventeen odd million old, white, knuckle-dragging, swivel-eyed racists threw a spanner into their world by voting OUT.
Going back above, and assuming these entrepreneurs are smart, wouldn’t you, in their position, right there, right then get your teams exploring how to maintain customers and acceptable profit margins for all deal, no deal, cliff-edge, crashing out scenarios right off the vote bat thus having answers and contingency plans in place within a week of the vote for any and all eventualities? And they’ve had over two years and are still crying? Are we to believe these captains of industry and those business super brains have just been sitting quietly waiting for the government to tell ‘em wot’s wot and are incapable of operating without having their hands held and runny noses wiped?
I kind o’ hope it’s just the negative ‘power players’ the media wheel out to suit their own narrative and the great majority of captains are indeed getting on with business rather than having spent the past two years plus crouched in their darkened bedrooms sobbing and wetting their panties in fear.
Crashing out – don’t you love it? We’ve been running towards this supposed crash for over two years now and in my world, even at my age, that’s time aplenty to avoid that little old lady in the broken-down Nissan Micra in the middle of the road up ahead.
Quote; It’s an old one, but...
“It would seem these business leaders are so smart they can tell you the cubic capacity of a jar of pickles with just a glance but have absolutely no idea how to get the lid off.”
Good point - these business folk will be bright and they will have got where they are by being a bit ruthlessness in their daily dealings. As you suggest, the idea that they are unprepared is ludicrous.
ReplyDeleteI guess many remainers don't quite understand the idea of adapting without being told how and when and which forms to fill in first.
A K Haart,
ReplyDeleteYesterday - I haven’t been near a TV so far today - the entire BBC news output was absolutely negative relating to leaving the EU. Even the sandwich absurdity was touched on as they had to admit sandwiches would still be available; but the cost... Not one even slightly positive topic was broached.
