Just to join in with general media warnings for the terminal dumb, basically saying that the sun can be jolly hot especially during this not unusual seasonal warm spell, I thought I’d add something it seems I forgot to add to the three plus one posts regarding my kidley stone adventure which can be found here, here, here and here.
And that would be? After the passing of the stone I was debriefed by the leading urologist in the whole of SEA. I have to say that I was so happy to be free from pain that little of wot he said sank in.
Wot I do remember was drink water and the hotter, the morer. Simple. He stated that our urine should be, but rarely is, as clear as gin. Knowing from the paperwork before him I was a pig from the rigs, he said it again pointing out and emphasising that the magic phrase was was ‘as clear as gin’ and should not be confused with the ever popular, ‘predominately gin’.
So all you hot folk out there, yes, I’m stating the obvious, horse that water down. Trust me, to avoid pain, engage brain and remember water is your friend. As the Doc said if you get dry and especially hot and dry, drink water. Not tea, coffee, juice, fizzy drinks, beer or spirits; water. Keep those kidneys flushed.
Trust me once more, this weather is similar to the conditions, coupled with physical exertion and long hours, that produced my stone and you really, really don’t want to go down with a kidney stone.
Finally, how are those wind turbines working out right now round your way? Round my way? Static is the word best suited.
Quote; Edward Abbey.
“One must be reasonable in one's demands on life. For myself, all that I ask is: (1) accurate information; (2) coherent knowledge; (3) deep understanding; (4) infinite loving wisdom; (5) no more kidney stones, please.”

Quite right too, Mac. Drink gallons of water during the day (with a tiny sprinkling of salt sometimes) as I toil ceaselessly - and, of late, sweatily - to line the pockets of Mrs. Hammond's little boy; and during the evening I may be found hanging off a bottle of Famous Grouse Chardonnay like a fruit-bat. This is essential as by 19.00hrs my blood alcohol level will have reached a dangerous low and the degree of amnesia essential to fitting in to today's world may not be achieved :-)
Caratacus,
Totally agree. However, old age dictates that water intake should be stopped at 18:00 or you'll find you're wearing out the carpet tramping back and forth to the bathroom all night. Something a tad stronger on the other hand... and Lord knows we need something to numb us from that which swirls around us.
