I was listening to this yesterday evening – go ahead and switch it on, it’ll set the mood, then carry on reading as I’m sure you can read and listen without falling over - and I got to thinking about modern day broadcasting and, in particular, the sad state of the BBC, when a ball of memory slowly bounced into my head. A memory of a BBC clip from their glory days of School broadcasting.
I’ve been searching for this clip for absolutely years and the last time I tried and gave up was way before the wonders of YouTube so with Mr Bouncy-Ball now firmly in control of my entire head I tried searching YouTube and guess wot? I’m now able to link to it for you.
Please listen to this 1948 children's classic, enjoy a breath of broadcasting gold and realise how tremendously, and quite possibly unintentionally, entertaining the good ol’ BBC used to be back in those days of innocence.
Sad to relate, this BBC Schools Radio program was still going strong when I started school and I vividly recall the march to the hall where we stripped to our underwear {Say what now? Gym kit? You’re kidding, right?} and did strange stuff with big bamboo hoops and beanbags as directed by the wireless lady. But that’s a whole other story altogether.
By the way, I would NOT recommend trying this at home. However, after listening to the clip and you do find yourself with an uncontrollable urge to go back in time and ‘give it a go’ then most definitely better tried at home rather than in public. But that’s only common sense.
Okay kids, and you looking out the window in boredom, that’s the preamble over so let’s get down to the school hall and have a moment of fun with Music and Movement.
I do hope that helped round off your weekend, or start your week, with a smile.
Quote; Jerry Seinfeld. “Somebody just gave me a shower radio. Thanks a lot. Do you really want music in the shower? I guess there's no better place to dance than a slick surface next to a glass door.”
Crikey - funniest thing I've heard for ages! Innocent days.
